The year is 2046 in thriving Hongkong where the population dresses in impeccable white clothes and memories can be erased with the gulp of a helpful pill. Ah Kum prevents a young man from downing one of these pills and proceeds to tell him her life story.
There are two timelines in the flashbacks. One tells of the toughest year in Ah Kum's life - 2003 - when the ageing hooker is hit by both a desire to retire and the onset of Sars.
Another story time-warps back to the 1980s when Ah Kum falls in love with her cousin Sunny (Jacky Cheung playing an unsentimental money-grubber to hilarious effect). And more ..
